Hyundai Genesis Coupe research: recalls, reliability and buyer's guide

The Genesis Coupe is an affordable rear-drive sports coupe aimed at the Mustang and Camaro crowd. 2013-2014 cars offer a 274-hp turbo four or a 348-hp V6 with a manual or 8-speed automatic; 2015-2016 are V6-only. R-Spec and Track trims add Brembo brakes and a limited-slip differential. Many have been modified or driven hard, so condition and a VIN recall check matter more than model year.

Model years covered: 2011–2016. The Genesis Coupe was sold in the U.S. for 2010-2016 (2011-2016 in this file); there is no 2017 or later model. The Hyundai Genesis sedan is a different vehicle.

Generations

Generation 1 (2010–2016)

The only Genesis Coupe generation launched for 2010 with a 210-hp 2.0L turbo and 306-hp 3.8L V6. A major 2013 refresh brought new styling, a 274-hp 2.0T, a 348-hp direct-injected V6 and an 8-speed automatic; an Ultimate trim arrived for 2014; the 2.0T was dropped for 2015; and production for the U.S. ended after 2016.

Buyer takeaway: For the most performance pick a 2013-2016 V6 (R-Spec for a manual and sportier chassis); for the lowest price a 2011-2012 2.0T. Favor unmodified cars and confirm recalls by VIN.
