Hyundai Ioniq 6 research: recalls, reliability and buyer's guide
The Ioniq 6 is one of the most efficient EVs on the road, with up to 361 miles of EPA range (2023-2024 Long Range RWD on 18-inch wheels) and very fast 800-volt charging. It rides quietly and comfortably, but rear headroom and trunk space are modest. Hyundai stopped selling the standard Ioniq 6 in the U.S. after 2025; the 2026 lineup is the high-performance Ioniq 6 N. Check ICCU recalls by VIN.
Model years covered: 2023–2026. Standard Ioniq 6 models were sold in the U.S. for 2023-2025 only. For 2026 Hyundai offers only the Ioniq 6 N in extremely limited numbers; verify its specs, EPA range and availability against current Hyundai data.

Generations
Generation 1 (2023–present)
The first-generation Ioniq 6 (2023-) is built in Asan, Korea, on the 800-volt E-GMP platform. U.S. 2023-2025 models offered a 149-hp 53 kWh RWD, a 225-hp 77.4 kWh RWD and a 320-hp AWD with a CCS port; changes were minor. Hyundai dropped the standard sedan in the U.S. after 2025 and offers only the 84 kWh, 641-hp Ioniq 6 N for 2026.
Buyer takeaway: A used 2023-2025 Long Range RWD on 18-inch wheels is the range champion; choose AWD for traction. Confirm ICCU recalls and battery health. The 2026 Ioniq 6 N is a rare enthusiast car.

Known issues and what to check
- ICCU 12-Volt Charging Recalls (2023-2025) (2023–2025)
NHTSA 24V-204 (2023-2024) and 24V-868 (2023-2025) cover Ioniq 6s whose Integrated Charging Control Unit can be damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, eventually causing a loss of drive power. The remedy is a software update plus inspection and ICCU/fuse replacement if needed.
What to do: Confirm ICCU remedies before buying any 2023-2025 Ioniq 6. - Front Seat Belt Anchor Recall (2023-2025) (2023–2025)
Campaign 26V-218 covers certain 2023-2025 Ioniq 6s (shared with Santa Fe and Genesis G90) whose driver and passenger seat belt anchors may detach.
What to do: Confirm the remedy by VIN. - Charging Port Door Recall (2023-2025) (2023–2025)
Campaign 25V-606 covers certain 2023-2025 Ioniq 6s whose charging-port door panel may detach, creating a road hazard.
What to do: Check the charge door operates and latches; confirm the recall. - Rear Driveshaft Recall (2023) (2023)
Campaign 24V-065 covers certain 2023 Ioniq 6s (with Ioniq 5 and GV60) whose rear inner driveshaft may have been improperly heat-treated and could break, causing a loss of drive power.
What to do: Confirm the remedy on 2023 models. - Range Depends Heavily on Wheel Size and Drivetrain (2023–2025)
The Long Range RWD on 18-inch wheels is rated 342-361 miles, but 20-inch wheels drop that to about 291-305, and AWD on 20s to about 270. Cold weather and highway speed reduce real range further. 2023-2025 models use a CCS port.
What to do: Match the configuration's EPA range to the buyer's needs. - Rear Headroom, Trunk and Visibility (2023–2026)
The Ioniq 6's swoopy roofline costs rear headroom and gives a modest trunk with a small opening, and rear visibility is limited. Taller passengers and cargo-heavy buyers should sit in and load it before buying.
What to do: Have buyers try the back seat and trunk. - Standard vs N and Ioniq 5 Disambiguation (2023–2026)
2023-2025 U.S. Ioniq 6s use 53 or 77.4 kWh batteries; the 2026 U.S. lineup is the 84 kWh Ioniq 6 N only. Refreshed non-N 2026 Ioniq 6 sedans sold in other markets (such as Canada) have different batteries and styling. The Ioniq 6 is a sedan and differs from the Ioniq 5 crossover and older Ioniq hatchback.
What to do: Confirm battery, motors and market before comparing.
