Generations
Generation 1 (2024–present)
The first-generation EV9 launched for 2024 with 76.1 kWh (215-hp RWD, 230 miles) and 99.8 kWh (215-hp RWD at 304 miles, or 379-hp, 516 lb-ft dual-motor AWD at 270-280 miles) batteries, 800-volt charging and six- or seven-seat layouts; Kia later added U.S. assembly of select trims in West Point, Georgia. 2025 brought minor trim changes; 2026 added range, a Nightfall Edition and an EV9 GT.
Buyer takeaway: Light Long Range RWD offers the most range per dollar; Wind, Land or GT-Line AWD suit buyers who tow or need all-weather traction. Check first-year 2024 models carefully for completed recalls.

Known issues and what to check
- High-Voltage Battery Cell Fire-Risk Recall (2024) (2024)
NHTSA recall 26V-431 covers certain 2024 EV9 (and 2022-2024 EV6) vehicles whose battery cells may contain misaligned electrodes that can lead to a fire while parked or driving. Until repaired, Kia advises parking outside and limiting charging to 80%; the remedy is a replacement high-voltage battery assembly.
What to do: Check this recall by VIN before buying a 2024 EV9. - Gear Drive Unit Recalls (2024-2025) (2024–2025)
Recall 24V-271 covers certain 2024 EV9s whose differential gear bolts may not be tightened properly, and recall 25V-115 covers certain 2025 EV9s with a possibly faulty rear drive-unit motor shaft weld. Either can cause loss of drive power; dealers replace the drive unit.
What to do: Confirm any drive-unit recall was completed before buying. - Seat Bolt, Headliner and Seat Belt Recalls (2024–2025)
Several first-year recalls cover interior safety parts: 24V-962 (certain 2024-2025 EV9s may be missing second- and third-row seat mounting bolts), 24V-400 (2024 headliner impact plates) and 24V-338 (2024 front passenger seat belt retractor cover).
What to do: Check the VIN and physically check that every seat is firmly mounted. - Airbag Occupant Detection and Display Software Recalls (2024–2026)
Recall 26V-545 covers certain 2025-2026 EV9s whose front-passenger occupant detection system may not turn off the airbag for a child seat. Recalls 24V-757 (2024-2025) and 26V-046 (2026) address instrument displays that may fail due to software. Recall 24V-693 updated remote smart parking assist software on certain 2024 models.
What to do: Confirm all open recalls are done, especially if you will carry children up front. - Battery Health and Charging Check (2024–2026)
A used EV9's value depends on its battery and charging performance. Range drops with cold weather, towing and larger wheels, and battery capacity declines gradually with age. A state-of-health report and a DC fast-charge test are the best checks.
What to do: Get a battery health report and test charging before buying. - Battery, Motor, Seating and Towing Resolution (2024–2026)
EV9 specs vary widely: 76.1 kWh Light RWD (215 hp, 2,000-lb towing), 99.8 kWh Light Long Range RWD (215 hp), 379-hp AWD Wind (3,500-lb towing) and Land/GT-Line (up to 5,000 lb when properly equipped), plus the 2026 GT. Seating is six or seven depending on trim and options.
What to do: Confirm battery, drive layout, seating and towing equipment before comparing. - Tire and Brake Wear on a Heavy EV SUV (2024–2026)
The EV9 is a heavy vehicle, so tires can wear faster than on a gas three-row SUV, especially with towing or larger wheels.
What to do: Check tire tread and budget for load-rated EV tires.
Recalls
Recall applicability varies by model year, production date, engine or battery, transmission, equipment, and VIN. Check the VIN for current open recalls and completed remedies. First-year 2024 EV9s have several recalls; check every campaign by VIN.
