Our mission

Your car. Your decision. Dealers we've chosen to trust.

We do the research. We help you understand your options. And when you're ready to buy, we connect you only with approved dealers that meet Avunu's standards.

We'd love for you to find your next car through Avunu — but whether you buy from one of our dealers or somewhere else, our goal is the same: that you leave more informed, more confident, and better prepared to make the decision that's right for you.

Why we built this

The used-car market wasn't built for the buyer.

Most used-car shopping starts with dealer inventory and ends with a payment. The middle — the part where you're supposed to figure out whether the vehicle is a good idea, whether the loan makes sense, whether the dealer is one you'd want to buy from twice — is usually left to the buyer to piece together from forums, YouTube, and whatever the salesperson decides to share.

That gap gets wider for shoppers who need in-house financing. Buy Here Pay Here has a reputation problem — some of it earned, some of it painted with too broad a brush. The customer who ends up at a BHPH store is often the customer with the least room for a bad decision, and often the customer with the least information to avoid one.

Avunu exists to close that gap. The marketplace is the surface you see; the research, the dealer vetting, and the financing education behind it are the point.

What we do

We research the vehicles. We vet the dealers. You keep the decision.

Every model in the marketplace has a research page covering generation-by-generation changes, known recalls, common problem areas, and honest comparisons to cars people cross-shop against it. It's free, it doesn't require an account, and it stays online whether you buy through us or not.

On the dealer side, we don't take listings from anyone with inventory to sell. Partners are invited into the network only after we've looked at their inspection process, their financing terms, their service history, and the kind of feedback their existing customers give them. When we send a shopper to a partner store, we're putting our name next to theirs.

The financing side gets the same treatment. Our financing guide explains how APR, term, and down payment interact — including a fair, plain-English look at what Buy Here Pay Here really is, what to ask before you sign, and what to walk away from.

How we vet dealers

What a dealer has to be for us to send you their way.

A partner joins the network when we're satisfied on four things:

  • A real inspection, not a marketing one.

Every vehicle listed comes off a standardized inspection and reconditioning process — not "safety-checked" as a phrase on the price sticker. If a partner can't tell us specifically what happens between intake and lot-ready, they don't get invited.

  • Financing that names its terms.

In-house lending is central to how the network operates, and it's why so many of our buyers can get approved when banks turn them down. But in-house doesn't mean opaque. Partners disclose their rate structures, their late-fee policies, and how repossessions are handled before a customer signs, not after.

  • Service the customer can reach after the sale.

Warranty questions, payment questions, repair questions — the customer should be able to walk back into the same store and talk to a person who knows their file. Partners with dead phone lines and voicemail-only support don't clear the bar.

  • A track record we can look at.

We look at reviews, complaint patterns, and how the store handles disputes. Nobody has zero complaints — the question is what they did about them.

What we commit to

Our promises to the buyer.

  • Research is free and stays free. No paywall, no email gate, no "premium tier" that hides the useful part.
  • We don't sell your data. The information you share when you get pre-approved goes to the dealer you're working with. It doesn't go to a lead-broker network, it doesn't get resold to a bank looking for a mailing list.
  • Pricing is what you see. The number on the vehicle page is the number you'll be quoted at the store. Doc fees and taxes exist and get disclosed, but there's no "internet price" trick that only applies if you also finance through the manufacturer.
  • You get the same deal whether you found the car on Avunu or on the dealer's own site. Our partners agreed to this when they joined.
  • If we can't serve you well, we'll say so. If the right decision for a specific shopper is to buy at a dealer we don't work with, or to keep the car they have, or to fix credit for six months first — that answer is more useful than a bad sale.

What we won't do

The anti-patterns we refuse to build.

Some of the mechanics that show up on other used-car sites we've deliberately chosen not to include:

  • Fake countdown timers on inventory pages.
  • Prices that are only valid if you also finance a specific way.
  • "Fill out this form to unlock the price" gates.
  • Popup opt-ins that make it hard to keep browsing without signing up.
  • SMS spam after a pre-approval submission.
  • Selling the applicant to third-party dealer networks after a form submit.

These patterns work, statistically — they lift short-term conversion rates. They also erode trust, and they're the reason the used-car industry has the reputation it has. We'd rather grow slower and cleaner.
